On Tuesday 13th August 2019 the Club held it’s monthly meeting, this was attended by 42 of the members. The meeting began with a minutes silence to remember 2 members who had passed away in the last month. The Treasurer reported a healthy financial situation and the bowls report included the report of 5 success out of 7 “Friendly” matches played. There were reports also of the upcoming lunches and trip as well as plans for a Scottish holiday next year. The meeting concluded with a talk entitled “Galtieri and my part in his downfall” by Chris Caroe. Chris was a Royal Marine Lieutenant at the start of the Falklands war in 1982 and gave a detailed account of his and his teams action during the conflict where they “Yomped” from their landing site and fought a number of actions until they arrived at Port Stanley. The account included a video display containing many graphic photographs of the action in and around San Carlos Bay where they landed and the British had their main supply base. An altogether gripping and engaging account of a piece of modern history.
